Darryl Tapp was born Darryl Anthony Tapp on 9/13/84 in Portsmouth, VA. He recorded 22 career sacks helping Deep Creek High School (Chesapeake, VA) to a 34-4 record during his three varsity seasons. Tapp earned first-team All-Group AAA honors from the state coaches following the 2001 season. He was a second-team pick by the Associated Press. Tapp was named first-team All-Southeastern District, All-Tidewater and All-Eastern Region. He posted 89 stops during senior season, including a school-record 15 sacks. Selected as an All-American and rated the number two defensive lineman in the Atlantic Region by PrepStar following his senior season, he posted eight quarterback sacks. Tapp earned first-team all-district honors helping team to the state championship game as a junior and to a regional championship in 2001. He lettered three seasons in basketball and as a weight man in track.

Professional Career:



In 2006 Darryl Tapp played in all 16 games in first NFL season. He finished the season with 23 tackles, 3.0 sacks, one interception for a touchdown, one forced fumble and nine special teams stops. Tapp registered first NFL sack versus Arizona (9/17) and collected his second the following week versus New York Giants (9/24). He posted a career-high four tackles, forced a fumble, and had a sack on Monday Night Football versus Green Bay (11/27). Tapp recorded his first-career interception and returned it 25 yards for a touchdown at Denver (12/3). He tied for a career-high with four tackles versus San Francisco (12/14) and played in both postseason games, registering four tackles. Pro: Tapp was selected with the 31st pick in the second round (63rd overall) of the 2006 NFL Draft. He was only the second player chosen from Virginia Tech in club history (Ike Charlton, 2000). Fourth defensive end selected since 2002.



ACE: Do you feel like grooming effects your game?

DT: Indeed. If you feel and look good then you play good. Also it looks better when you do postgame interviews.

ACE: What teammate could really use the ACE male grooming products?

DT: Josh Wilson and Baraka Atkins.

ACE: Did you ever get hazed by your college teammates? Shaved head, eyebrows?

DT: Yes as a freshman we had to get our heads shaved bald.

ACE: What's your favorite guilty grooming pleasure? (Manicure? Pedicure? Facial? Waxing? Baths?)

DT: Pedicure.

ACE: Do real men get manicures?

DT: Of course they do.
